Middleman

November 22nd, 2007

Another great Leeds band, Middleman, to break up my shitty last posts. It’s upbeat pop mainly. Nowt wrong with that.

Listen to Middleman – Good to be back

Crystal Castles

October 19th, 2007

Jof mentioned this lot a while ago. Thought I’d chuck some of their 8 bit terror up here as I like it.

Any word of more releases? Worth seeing live?

Crystal Castles – Untrust Us

Foals

October 11th, 2007

New bands come along each year but they generally don’t excite. Foals are amongst the few that do.

I was gushing about iForwardRussia! a year back (and I still am – “Give me a wall” was my favourite album of 2006 and still gets a fair bit of play through the day from me), and if Foals keep delivering the tunes they’ve been slowly pushing out, I suspect it may be the same with them.

I think they come under the genre of “Math Rock” (whatever that means), but any jutty guitars, shouts and blips can be called whatever it likes as far as I’m concerned.

Jimmy Eat World

Live ‘Sleeves

October 24th, 2006

Ah fuck it, I know I said I wouldn’t post but scrap that…

I went to see the Dirty Sleeves last night and they were awesome. Super tight (I’ll leave Jof to insert the analogy here), super confident and the sound was bob on. The new songs are rockin’ too and have been on my playlist all morning.

Go catch them on the semi-North tour now!

Oct 23 – Escobar – Wakefield
Oct 24 – Varsity Venue – Wolverhampton
Oct 25 – Kings Electric – Wigan
Oct 26 – Bliss – Leigh
Oct 27 – The Underground – Southport
Oct 28 – Old No.7 – Barnsley
Oct 29 – The Soundhouse – Bolton

The band on before them sounded like yet another Killers tribute band. What’s with that? Is that sound the new Britpop?

:o utoftouch:

Smashing Pumpkins

Come back please :(

iLiKETRAiNS

August 15th, 2006

I’ve been listening to the iLiKETRAiNS album since Saturday after reading more and more about them. They’re one of the bands that seemed to be cropping up early last year along with Forward Russia and Duals, but are on a much slower uptake, possibly due to the fact the sound is very dark and the songs are about such uplifting subjects as eccentric chess players and discarded rail networks.

I’m off to see them next week supporting Forward Russia so will report back. Bet you can’t wait!

Anyway, iLiKEiLiKETRAiNS and so should you.

Stateless

July 15th, 2006

I went to see Stateless play at the HiFi Club in Leeds last night with a couple of old workmates. The sound wasn’t particularly good, but those fellas are tight! I’m just impatiently waiting for the album to come out now.

Go and check ‘em out.

Imagine Portishead with Jeff Buckley singing, more scratching, and gorgeous backing vocals.

Editors

May 20th, 2006

I went to see Editors last night in Millenium Square in Leeds. It was ace. They’re one of the best live bands I’ve seen in a long time…

Forward Russia played in support too and were pretty good too. I got their album on Monday and recommend it! Good shouty tunes with synths. Can’t go wrong there.
